Gesture drawing. This exercise combines elements of body-oriented psychotherapy and isotherapy. Why do this exercise: to throw out accumulated suppressed feelings and emotions that require release, to relieve tension. In the process, the current state is being worked through, a search for exits, resources, the development of spontaneity, and the activation of creative potential. What you need: - make sure that no one disturbs or disturbs you for an hour or two, - a large-format sheet (approximately 150 × 50 cm) , you can take a piece of wallpaper, attach it to the wall. - colored oil pastel (or dry, if you prefer). At the first stage, you need to focus on your task (request) and observe how the body responds. Listen to your body. This could be a short meditation or even a dance (music is welcome if it puts you in the right mood and does not distract you). You start moving and move on to the second stage: take a chalk in each hand, or even more than one, as you like, and continue moving, as if transferring your gestures to paper. Immerse yourself completely in this process, have fun making strokes and lines with your right hand, then your left hand, or both at once. It is better not to bring any meaning to the image, not to analyze what comes out. Just fill the space of the sheet, following the body, trusting it. You may need to “complete” the work surface with additional sheets. Do not deny yourself this. Do not give in to the temptation to step back from the drawing and evaluate it. Continue drawing until your hands drop on their own and until you feel that everything is enough. Third stage. Now you can step back a couple of steps and look at your drawing. You can write down your thoughts, emotions, sensations that arose in the process of work and from the result, and also add to the drawing what you are missing. In a group work format, you will be able to discuss your drawings and receive feedback. Whether you interpret the result or not, whether to look for a connection with the original request, is at your discretion. Perhaps you came up with some completely different topic, or you want to leave everything as is, and observe how the resonance of the work will unfold over time. This is the fourth stage. Here you will need to be attentive to everything new, unusual that comes into your life: coincidences, dreams, events, meetings, new opportunities, and to your inner state, way of thinking, behavior. At this stage, you can also take notes and analyze. Note: a sheet of paper can be placed on the floor. You can make a monochrome drawing and use other visual materials, such as paint. You can repeat this exercise as often as you need. If you like this technique, you will receive another tool for building harmonious relationships with your “I” and with the world. That's what I wish for you! Svetlana Leontyeva
