Smoking as a habit. Considering the psychological (and not the medical aspect) of smoking as an acquired bad habit, we will define what a habit is in general. In psychology, this concept is given the following definition: a habit is a learned action that has become automated and carried out without much effort. Simply put, these are actions that we do without thinking. It's very easy to form a habit. We do the deed. First we have to consciously perform and control actions, movements and operations. But then everything becomes simpler, and then we completely stop noticing how, when we come home, we automatically turn on the light (raising our hand exactly to the level of the switch), put on slippers in one motion, and habitually press the button on the television remote control. This is called automation - the basis of a habit. Habitual action is controlled not by consciousness, but by what is deep inside. A habit is a subconscious program according to which a person acts. This program is a great helper; it helps save energy. Actions happen as if by themselves, leaving us with energy to solve more complex problems. But there are habits that complicate our lives, ruin our health, which we regret and want to get rid of. This is difficult to do. Very. But it is possible. Every habit has its consequences. Some people wonder why even tragic results don't help people change their habits. There are many reasons. Main 3: 1. Instant pleasure for most people is much more important than long-term consequences.2. A person only sometimes enjoys his actions. Therefore, he begins to perform them, hoping to achieve pleasure every time. For example, a person who is accustomed to cracking his fingers experiences pain, but the next time he does it and enjoys it, he thereby reinforces his habit.3. It is human nature to choose the lesser of two evils. For example, someone who is used to always being late hates haste, which makes him nervous. He would rather endure the wrath of the person he has to meet than suffer the inconvenience of being in a hurry. So, determine the reason. To get rid of a bad habit, you must first identify its cause. Without this, you risk acquiring an even more harmful habit or developing neurosis. The formation of any habit is caused by the peculiarities of the psychological state. For example, the habit of biting nails is the result of stress, neurosis; a person tries to calm down in this way, satisfying the sucking reflex. This includes all habits associated with the oral cavity: smoking, overeating, biting lips, pens, etc. Insecurity can manifest itself in fiddling with clothing or an object. After determining the cause, observe yourself. The most effective way is to keep a diary. Write down in detail everything related to your habit, in this case smoking. When the desire to smoke arises, what situations arise, events, thoughts that precede smoking. Review your recordings daily to identify relevant signals so you can interrupt them in time. Often, excluding provoking circumstances, a person forgets about his bad habits. For example, on vacation or changing jobs. In some cases, you should seek help from a psychologist. Sometimes one visit is enough to understand and cope with your problem. Find what you like about your habit. For example, smoking gives us a lot of positive aspects: you can easily start communication, get distracted, and switch during strong experiences. These are important human needs that need to be met. Now it becomes clear why consequences such as cancer, metabolic disorders, destruction of the circulatory system, etc., fade into the background. Make a firm decision. This is the most important thing. Your decision must not be violated under any circumstances. Here you can use different techniques. Bet on
