Individualism has become integral to changing attitudes toward marriage and divorce. Today, personal growth and independence have replaced age-old family values as priorities. This approach usually leads to alienation between spouses, as each seeks to realize his personal aspirations and interests outside of marriage. Thus, marriage can become a burden for people who want to actively develop themselves, but feel bound by conservative norms and therefore choose divorce as the only possible solution. Marriage dissolution rates have reached unprecedented levels due to the factor of feminism and gender equality and their influence on attitudes towards marriage. In most countries of the world, women have always been considered second-class citizens. They were denied equal rights and opportunities. Moreover, they were also not allowed to make any personal decisions, such as whether they would go to school or who they would marry. However, as a result of the campaign for gender equality at the international level and the progressive recognition of women's rights, many women are now given the chance to seek fulfillment outside traditional families. Consequently, these changes in society have led to a rethinking of the value of marriage, which can be interpreted as outdated and which can limit freedom to develop individuality and hinder gender equality. In this context, divorce can be seen as a deliberate act for women who want to assert their independence and achieve equality between the sexes. The pursuit of personal happiness and self-fulfillment also becomes a factor that has played a role in changing ideas about marriage and the increase in divorce rates. These days, people are increasingly encouraged to look after their well-being and happiness at all costs. These individualistic pressures can sometimes conflict with the expectations and responsibilities that come with married life, so couples may think twice about staying in a disappointing marriage. It is normal for a person's priorities and desires to change as they get older, which can cause a discrepancy between perceptions what the partner would like and what the current situation offers. Divorce is often considered a way out of a situation where people can lead their lives in search of happiness and personal development, without taking into account the obligations of marriage.
