The desire to turn to a specialist who resolves issues regarding the secrets of a child’s soul sometimes arises, and probably not for all parents. Some people don't even think about it. But many, even if they want to come for a consultation with a psychologist, do not always know what is hidden behind the words “child psychologist” and what exactly this specialist does. Let’s try to figure it out. Perhaps this is where we should start. From a story about WHO A child psychologist IS NOT. “A PERSON WHO ONLY HELPS CHILDREN.” This is myth No. 1. Because the field of work of a specialist is very wide, and we will talk about this in more detail below. The work of a child psychologist includes parents, brothers and sisters, grandparents, educators or teachers (if we are talking about preschool and school institutions), peers and all those who are in any way connected with the child and can help in resolving this or that request that a specialist is currently working on. A WIZARD WHO CAN FULFILL A PARENT’S WISH: “DO SOMETHING WITH HIM.” This is myth No. 2. A psychologist will never work on such a request. A competent specialist always needs specifics: what led to this or that child’s behavior, what contributes to development, what aggravates the manifestation of certain traits. Moreover, it is precisely this formulation that generally calls into question the basic principles of psychology, because the psychologist always works together with the client, only guiding him along the way. This is myth No. 3. Never, under any pretext, will a child psychologist work with your child without your consent. This is contrary to the laws of psychology ethics, and you must remember this. Therefore, if in kindergarten or school they tell you about classes with a psychologist, remember that they can only be carried out after YOUR CONSENT.
