Learning a new skill is physical, undisguised pain. I recently taught my 70-year-old mother how to use the front camera of her phone when making a video call. I literally felt her pain and resistance. And then, something clicked - and now she was showing me the Mother Volga during our next call. Resistance to change is a natural defensive reaction of the human psyche. Since ancient times, innovation has meant danger and unpredictability. Why take a new path with a high probability of becoming the prey of a predator if there is a well-trodden path? Why take risks? Since then, change has been an ambitious challenge for us. For what? Why are you torturing me, it was good anyway? - our psyche rebels. However, changes are inevitable, and it would be better if we voluntarily introduce them into our lives preventively than deal with the consequences. Communicating with new people is hard work. Especially at 30-40-50 years old, when you already had your own environment, your own safe bubble, in which there are no surprises. Surprises generally cease to be enjoyable over the years. Better without surprises. According to the thumbnail diagram. New people may be nice, but who knows what to expect from them? Living in a new country is an unbearable burden. Especially if you have no experience of moving and traveling. “Oh-oh I'm an alien, I'm a legal alien,” I repeat after Sting, wandering through the narrow streets of the ancient city. And sometimes I really feel like an alien. Because everything is different, everything is alien and unusual. And this is pain. And with every skill mastered, with every new word learned, with every little overcoming, confidence grows. The island of safety is expanding, the number of things in life that we influence and can control is expanding. And this is very valuable. All changes are for the better, I repeat like a mantra to myself and my clients. And this is true if you accept them with enthusiasm and curiosity. Tell us, how do you feel about changes? How do you overcome resistance? What have the changes done for you lately??
