In therapy, we psychologists often ask our clients about feelings “here and now” and in certain situations. Sometimes clients don't understand what this is for. However, when living, speaking and accepting the feeling occurs, it becomes easier for the client. This can be done independently by people of high awareness, who attend therapy and psychologists. Feelings are given to humans by nature and therefore they have certain functions. What do feelings tell us? What are their functions? Feelings help us understand our state, our needs, desires, understand whether they are satisfied, how we feel, make a decision, understand reality, feel our boundaries, how comfortable or not we are, dangerous or safe, how we can take care of ourselves, understand how and where we should move further, develop, what to achieve, understand how we relate to ourselves, what we want to become and what to change, understand our attitude towards the people around us, our family and friends. Feelings help you experience the colors of life. Let's discuss some human feelings. Fear shows us about danger. A person experiencing fear can quickly react and take care of himself, protect himself. There is a lot of energy in anger, which allows us to achieve what we want, achieve our goals, develop and change our lives. Anger as an indicator that shows violation of needs and desires. Anger helps us stand up for ourselves and protect ourselves. Anger can act as a reaction to shame, guilt, grief, envy or disgust. Disgust, by the way, helps us understand what suits us and what does not, what is useful and harmful (people, relationships, food, etc.). Disgust shows whether you want to continue these contacts or not. Anxiety helps you return to the “here and now”, understand how uncomfortable it is, whether your personal boundaries are being violated, whether it is pleasant to be in this place and with these people. Anxiety helps you think about it and take action to take care of yourself and pay attention to yourself. Sadness helps you slow down, feel here and now, and accept reality. With the help of sadness, a person experiences grief, loss, the end of a relationship, separation. When something doesn't work out, we feel sad. Admitting powerlessness and thinking about plans for where to move next. Envy shows us where to go next. There are two feelings in envy - admiration and anger. They help a person develop further and what to achieve next. Why do people “close” their emotions and “freeze” themselves? The fact is that not all emotions are pleasant to experience - sadness, disgust, guilt, shame... However, if you do not experience feelings and “close” them, suppress them in yourself, then there may be consequences in the form of psychosomatic diseases or affective states (when a person suppresses and accumulates feelings, and then cannot stand it). If you feel discomfort, think about what feelings you are experiencing, why or how you can help yourself? Sometimes the answers to these questions help you cope. But more often it is difficult to cope independently, so it is better to consult a specialist. Our feelings tell us - is everything in your life as you want? How do you want it to be in your life? What kind of person do you want to be? With whom, in what relationship? What kind of life do you want to live??
