EMDR (desensitization and processing of trauma with eye movement) is a psychotherapeutic technique that is most often used when working through psychological trauma, when the human psyche is unable to cope with a difficult experience on its own. It has been proven that in During the REM sleep phase, our brain processes the information accumulated during the day, structuring it, thereby, as it were, “removing” a strong emotional charge from it. It is during the REM sleep phase that a person makes involuntary eye movements. Thus, eye movements and information processing are two interrelated processes. Eye movements trigger the process of natural healing of the human psyche. Often, traumatic events “stuck” in the mind arise again and again in the form of difficult memories, recurring nightmares, obsessive thoughts, and a state of constant anxiety. All this leads to retraumatization; a person is again and again forced to relive difficult events that happened to him once. During EMDR sessions, this difficult experience begins to be processed at an accelerated rate. The EMDR technique in just a few sessions can improve the condition of a person suffering from:• traumas of sexual and physical violence,• consequences of attacks, accidents, fires, catastrophes and natural disasters);• acute grief (loss syndrome);• marital conflicts;• conflicts at work; • increased anxiety, • self-doubt, • low self-esteem; It is worth noting that desensitization and reprocessing with eye movements refers to short-term therapy methods. As a rule, relief occurs after the first session, and to completely process the trauma, it takes from 3 to 10 meetings. In my work, I use an adapted version of EMDR 2.0, where other options for bilateral stimulation are added to the eye movements: patting the shoulders, legs, adding tactile and auditory stimulation. The adapted version of EMDR 2.0 allows you to achieve even faster results when working with psychological trauma.
