The influence of social networks on our lives has become an integral part of modern society, and often it has both positive and negative consequences on our mental and emotional state. Constant presence on social networks and the need for constant updating of information has become one of the characteristic features of modern man. Not responding or liking a post can cause anxiety and negative emotions. We try to look better than our friends and acquaintances, we publish only the best moments of our lives, creating the illusion of perfection. As a result, such perfect pictures cause feelings of inadequacy and envy among other users. It is worth noting that the possibilities of social networks are certainly many. We have the opportunity to freely communicate, exchange information, find new friends and introduce them to our lives through various publications. But when this begins to become a necessity and the basis of our self-determination, this causes a number of negative consequences. More and more people are suffering from the phenomenon of “Instagram depression”. This is a condition where watching other people's "ideal" lives on social networks leads to a deterioration in self-esteem and well-being. We begin to doubt our uniqueness and worth by comparing ourselves to other people we have never met in real life. This can cause feelings of loneliness and slow down psychological development. Additionally, social media can sometimes contribute to addiction. We sometimes spend too much time updating news, looking at photos and comments, without paying attention to other areas of life. This not only takes up time, but also takes energy, which can lead to deterioration of physical and mental health. However, social networks should not be perceived solely as a negative phenomenon. It is important to remember the opportunities and the benefits they can bring. For example, they help people make important social contacts, exchange information, and stay in touch with loved ones across great distances. Thus, the impact of social networks on our lives is ambiguous. They can stimulate us to develop and improve ourselves, but they can also contribute to the development of low self-esteem and dependence. The optimal approach is to use social media consciously, use it in moderation, and devote the right amount of time and attention to the real world and interacting with real people.* Instagram is owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia.
