- This question was asked by many in our country. Or at least heard it. And if you haven’t heard or asked, then, quite likely, you haven’t heard about psychotherapy itself. And really - who? And does anyone really need it? In Europe, a visit to a psychotherapist is common. A crisis period in life, problems in the family, difficulties in raising a child - with all this and much more, people turn to help, “there” it’s as natural as for us to go to the dentist if you have a toothache. Although no, going to the dentist is worse. In America, almost everyone goes to psychotherapy at least at some point in their lives. Several months of psychotherapy are included in standard health insurance. That is, you don’t need to have any problems to undergo psychotherapy, people simply take care of their mental health in this way - the same way we take care of our physical health, for example, by playing sports or taking walks in the fresh air. But this is “theirs”. We essentially don’t even have such a concept as “mental health.” More precisely, there is, of course, but somewhere in medical and psychological documents, at lectures in specialized universities - in a word, “terribly far from the people.” While we are able to somehow cope with stress, emotional and mental overload, our own problems “from childhood” and those newly acquired in adulthood, we often do not even find the time to listen to ourselves in order to understand whether we are living the life we want. Would like to choose for yourself. But at times the situation gets out of our control, and then life suddenly becomes gray, unemotional, or, conversely, overflowing with experiences that we cannot withstand. It may be difficult for us because our psyche cannot cope with constant stress; because a misfortune has happened that seems impossible to survive; because relationships in your personal life just don’t work out; are haunted by career failures; diseases have appeared for no apparent reason, and medications do not help - everyone can add something of their own to this list. And in all of these cases, psychotherapy may be the answer. Not because there is some universal list of solutions to all problems that the therapist is ready to reveal to you for your money. It's quite the opposite - there are no universal solutions, just as no two people are the same. Each person is unique, and the right decision is different for each person. And, of course, the therapist cannot know this decision. But he can explore with you how you live your life, why it turned out that it stopped making you happy and what you can do to make it sparkle with the colors you want. The human psyche is a very complex, multi-layered dynamic structure, so understanding it takes a lot of time and effort. Psychotherapy is work. Work of the client accompanied and supported by the therapist. And here, unlike America, people come to a psychotherapist “with acute pain” - almost always. Those who can no longer bear the old way. And it’s good that they come. When they come. If they come...
