Drozd (Moscow Humanitarian University) The article presents the results of studies of the relationship of psychological boundaries with anxiety and depression. Key words: psychological boundary, anxiety, depression. Interrelation of psychological boundaries with anxiety and depressive personality I.A. Drozd (Moscow University for the Humanities) In the article results studies on. the interrelationship of psychological boundaries with anxiety and depression. Keywords: psychological boundary, anxiety and depression. This study was conducted to confirm the hypothesis that there is a relationship between a person’s psychological boundary and anxiety and depression. The choice of methods was determined by the objectives of the study. Standardized and validated psychodiagnostic methods were used in the work: to study psychological boundaries, the questionnaire “Methodology for the Study of Psychological Boundaries” by T. S. Levy was used; to study depression, the “Depression Scale” questionnaire by T. I. Balashov was used; To study anxiety, the “Self-Esteem Scale” questionnaire was used by Ch. D. Spielberger, Yu. L. Khanin. The objects of the study were students of psychology and students of technical specialties. The total number of participants was 60 boys and girls aged from 19 to 22 years. To identify the relationship between the psychological boundary with anxiety and depression, the study was carried out through a questionnaire and further correlation analysis of the data. There are different positions in determining the psychological boundary of a person. The essence of this phenomenon is the separation of the internal and external worlds. In this work, I was based on the approach of T. S. Levy, who considers the psychological boundary as a functional organ of the individual. According to Ukhtomsky, a functional organ is a virtual energy formation that is formed and manifested in actions: a functional organ is a combination of forces to solve a problem [1]. According to Levi T.S. the psychological boundary expresses the state of “I,” characterized primarily by the level of activity and the vector of movement away from oneself or toward oneself [2]. T.S. Levy writes: “The psychological boundary is formed in the process of realizing one’s own internal space and defending it, overcoming symbiotic relationships. Such overcoming means gaining the right to self-determination, freedom, but at the same time responsibility for oneself” [3]. Podoroga writes: “This border is vibrating, constantly changing its line of tension, consistency, thickness, activity of the two environments coinciding in it (External and Internal) [5, P.51]. The optimal border is capable of depending on the state of the world and our own desires to change their characteristics: - density - permeability - thickness - shape In most cases, the choice is made unconsciously, made as a result of correlating data on the state of “the internal space of the Self and the external space of the world” [3]. T. S. Levy identifies 6 potential states of the optimal psychological boundary [2]: 1. The border can be calmly neutral in cases of a similar state of the World.2. The border can become actively inaccessible, impenetrable to external influences if these influences are assessed as harmful.3. The boundary can become completely permeable and allow the Self to “merge” with the world if the person is confident and has trust.4. The boundary can become actively absorbing, drawing in, if a person has the internal right to satisfy his needs.5. The border maybecome actively giving if a person has the internal right to express himself.6. The boundary can become actively restraining, containing internal energy. In psychology, anxiety is understood as a person’s tendency to experience anxiety, i.e. an emotional state that arises in situations of uncertain danger and manifests itself in anticipation of an unfavorable development of events [7]. A certain level of anxiety is a natural and obligatory feature of an individual’s active activity. Each person has his own optimal or desired level of anxiety - this is the so-called useful anxiety [6]. However, an increased level of anxiety is a subjective manifestation of personal distress. The manifestations of anxiety in different situations are not the same. In some cases, people tend to behave anxiously always and everywhere, in others they reveal their anxiety only from time to time, depending on the circumstances [4]. Depression is a condition accompanied by feelings of sadness, fatigue and irritability. A person stops interacting with the outside world. Depression greatly changes a person’s attitude towards life and activities. This condition occurs due to strong feelings of sadness or grief. The results of the study are presented in Table No. 1. Table No. 1 “Results of correlation analysis (Spearman coefficient)” In the table, the functions of the psychological boundary are presented in the horizontal plane, and anxiety and depression in the vertical plane. As a result of the study, significant negative relationships between the psychological boundary and anxiety and depression. Significant relationships are highlighted in bold italics. The “-” sign indicates the negative nature of the relationship, which means that with depression or anxiety, most functions of the psychological boundary have low activity. And vice versa, with high indicators of the boundary functions, the state of anxiety and depression will decline. A significant relationship between depression and anxiety and the psychological boundary is observed in the following functions: actively not letting in, completely permeable, actively absorbing and calmly neutral. It is important to note that the actively not letting in function has a clear relationship only with anxiety. Below we will present a detailed examination of obvious negative relationships and their impact on a person. Depression. As a result of the study, a clear negative relationship between depression and 3 functions of the psychological boundary was revealed. Completely permeable function. With a low level of activity, it is difficult or does not allow the Self to merge with the world , with another person. A person in this state experiences self-doubt and lacks trust in others. A person in such a state is not able to understand the feelings of another person, which makes it more difficult to break out of his depressive state. Active-absorbing function. With low activity, it does not give a person the feeling of an internal right to satisfy his needs. He cannot directly ask for help, openly stating his need. Such a person remains, as it were, cut off from the world and remains alone with his fears. Calm-neutral function. If this function has low activity, then this is a clear sign that such a person has violated the basic version of the boundary, which allows him to be flexible and adequate. Anxiety The result of the study revealed a clear negative relationship between anxiety and 4 functions of the psychological boundary. Actively not letting in function. If this function has weak activity, then it is difficult for a person with such a function to say no, to restrain the pressure of the outside world. He may not feel the internal right to independence, to make independent decisions. From which it is clear that while in such a state it is almost impossible to remain calm and not experience anxiety. Three other functions: completely permeable, active-absorbing and calm-neutral, are described in detail.
