From the author: Several years ago, the topic of intuitive eating finally reached Russia, a lot of publications in Russian, seminars and consultants appeared. In this article I will not retell the basic principles of individual entrepreneurs; they can be found, for example, on the blog intuitiv-eating.livejournal.com. I’ll tell you what intuitive eating is NOT. Many people perceive intuitive eating as a cleverly twisted technology to eat less (read: lose weight). In fact, this is a technology for detecting your zones and relationship patterns that trigger disruptions in normal nutrition, with all the ensuing consequences of these disruptions. Intuitive eating is what healthy eating is all about, and when you try to practice it, you inevitably end up with all your funny cockroaches. Trying to stay in IP only at the level of mechanical actions, perceiving it as a type of diet, will only lead to another disappointment. If you take the principles of IP and translate them into literal recommendations, such as “Eat only when you feel hungry, and as soon as you are full, stop.” , then from a practical point of view it will turn out to be complete nonsense. Because since you are interested in intuitive nutrition, then you have a disordered eating behavior to one degree or another, and since you have a disordered eating behavior, then you cannot just go and start eating intuitively (that is, normally, healthy) from Monday . The only happy exception is those situations when a person is an intuitive eater himself, and his relationship with food is not broken, but only his concepts are a little confused. The rest will have a more difficult time. You will have to go through a certain path (see the post “The Path to Intuitive Eating: Steps and Challenges”). And the motivation alone to have a shapely butt is not enough for this path (I have nothing against shapely butts, but they are not at the top of my life values ​​and priorities). By practicing intuitive eating as a process of developing awareness, rather than as a set of dietary recommendations, you see more and more clearly how you are running away from yourself, from your potential, from your power. I remembered a client I had recently - she, at her core, a passionate and emotional woman, devoted years to learning to restrain and suppress her emotions and manifestations, because other people found it difficult to tolerate her expression. As a result, she found herself in an extremely stressful situation at work, where her bosses were simply using her, and she did not set boundaries. Instead, she ate and gained weight, cultivating her hard-won pseudo-conflictlessness. In IP practice there is a term “emotional eating” - eating for reasons not related to physiological hunger, as a way to cope with emotional discomfort. In fact, this is overeating. For me, in the context of overeating, the more relevant question is not “how to stop it” (those who have tried to stop a running elephant know how difficult it is to stop emotional overeating), but “what is hidden behind it.” There is something deep down there - a feeling or experience that requires an immediate dose of medicine. And explanations like “you overeat at night simply because you don’t eat enough carbohydrates during the day,” or “you simply don’t have enough calcium in your diet” are not the whole truth, and then not most of it (oh, by the way, I’m not against carbohydrates during the day and not against calcium). And this is where the fun begins. When there is a chance to meet the experience that is inside. Which I try to avoid dating through food. And there could be anything there. And usually something pretty wild. Wild longing for love. A wild feeling of rejection. Wild sexuality that cannot find a way out. A wild thirst for creativity that never comes to fruition. Wild anger at someone. To push your wildness into the farthest dark corner means to strangle yourself. To bring your wildness out of the closet and invite it back into your life, to give it space, to give it attention, to find forms of expression for it, is to give yourself nourishment.
