Some people believe that everyone should cope with personal difficulties themselves. Some people say that normal people don’t go to a psychologist. Many people do not try to change anything in life, because they are confident in their hopeless fate. Why a psychologist? How can he help? After all, everything is clear. What can a psychologist say to an adult, educated, reasonable person who sees for himself what is preventing him from living? The answer is simple. A person doesn’t really know why and why he does things, experiences emotions, and is tormented by thoughts that can make his life unbearable. A particular person's knowledge of himself and other things is very limited. For example, we don't know what happens in our lungs when we breathe. To understand what is happening, you need to involve a specialist. Our psyche works like a well-functioning mechanism, unconscious to us, in which we notice and feel only the result. The mental processes themselves, from their occurrence to the moment of committing an act, the appearance of a thought, an emotion, are not controlled or realized by us. The psyche constructs algorithms, sequences, and patterns that begin to form immediately after birth and continue to be adjusted throughout life. A person is not aware of them because otherwise he would not be able to concentrate on the current life. Just as we are not aware of unnecessarily inhaling and exhaling, the work of the heart and stomach. The nervous system takes responsibility for the balanced and efficient functioning of internal organs, giving us the opportunity to do other things. In approximately the same way, the psyche takes control of mental processes, giving us only results. For example, we happily walk in a certain part of the city or forest, not realizing that this may be associated with pleasant childhood memories. We only get pleasure from the walk, and the psyche takes over the motivation and choice of place. If something in our life is not happening the way we would like, and we cannot understand what is happening and why, we need a specialist who understands the principles of the psyche and knows how these processes can be corrected. This is what a psychologist is. There are significant differences in the work of a doctor and a psychologist. The processes of the internal organs and nervous system are well studied and are similar in most people, but the processes of the psyche cannot be unified. Each person is unique and his psyche builds unique processes taking into account the characteristics of his physiology, conditions of birth, upbringing, psychological trauma, stress, living conditions, etc. You can understand the “schemes” of a particular person not only by knowing the principles of formation of “schemes”, but also by knowing the personality traits of this person. Therefore, communication necessary to obtain information is the main tool in the work of a psychologist. In addition, a person is not able to evaluate and analyze himself objectively. Our opinions, beliefs, decisions are determined by our personal experience, our feelings, passions, and the need to adhere to our own rules. Only someone from the outside, impartial in relation to this person, can give a more objective description of our processes. “You can understand a system only by going beyond its boundaries.” (B. Verber.) Therefore, even highly qualified psychologists, when personal problems arise, do not engage in self-therapy, but turn to colleagues for help. The specifics of a psychologist’s work, associated with the lack of specific diagnoses, non-formalized methods of work, and the presence of many different approaches to therapy, do not allow everyone to understand the difference between a psychologist’s consultation and ordinary communication. But in totality: 1) professional knowledge of the principles of constructing mental processes; 2) understanding how to correct them; 3) assessing the problem state from the position of another, independent person - the professional position of a psychologist is defined quite clearly. To better understand your own psychological problems and choose ways to solve them, you need to communicate with.
