Apathy is a mental state in which a person completely loses interest in life for a long time, is indifferent to everything around him, and stops going towards a goal and striving for anything. A person prefers loneliness, avoids meeting with family and friends, and does not radiate either positive or negative emotions. Passivity cannot continue forever. If a person cannot get out of an apathetic state for a long time, he should seek help from a specialist. In this article we will look at how a psychologist can help in the fight against apathy. A specialist teaches you to listen to your body. Apathy most often affects purposeful people under constant stress. An exorbitant amount of work has a negative impact on a person - without proper rest, he begins to burn out. Graduates who have been persistently preparing for exams for several months often complain about apathy. In order for your work to be productive, effective, and most importantly useful, you need to maintain a balance between work and rest, and also learn to track the body’s signals about what is happening and it’s time to switch from work to something light and calming. During the session, the specialist helps the client study his own body: what negatively affects it, what brings positive emotions, when burnout began, and so on. A psychologist helps to overcome the trauma. Apathy acts as a defense mechanism and occurs after severe stress or grief. To avoid a crisis and a nervous breakdown, the body blocks bright emotions, and the person becomes indifferent. He is still hurt by the events of the past, but at the same time he is not touched by either positive or negative events. A psychologist comes to the rescue again: in order to get out of a passive state, you need to survive the trauma. A specialist helps you understand complex feelings and emotions, let go of resentment and live through pain. Having experienced grief, a person is reborn to life and learns to notice something good. A psychologist restores motivation and helps determine goals. Apathy also overtakes those who have not learned to be independent and do not know which path to choose for themselves, whose parents suffered from overprotection and determined the child’s life in everything: which section he will go to, where he will enroll, who he will work for. Grown-up children do not know how to organize their lives independently of mom and dad, which is why they plunge into a state of indifference. A psychologist helps to separate from parents so that the person gets used to independence and learns independence. Setting goals also relieves the client of apathy: motivation and a desire to change their life for the better appear. It is not always possible to get out of an apathetic state after a serious breakup, a psychological crisis or the death of a loved one alone. Professional help from a psychologist will help you return to a full life filled with vivid emotions. With respect to you, psychologist Olga Bychkova!
