Each of us has our own important criteria by which we choose specialists. Usually, psychologists are searched for on websites, through recommendations, on social networks... and first of all, we choose with our eyes whether we like this person or not, we track our emotions and feelings. Now there is a great opportunity on social networks to look at a person, how he looks, behaves, whether his voice is pleasant to you, what kind of speech, facial expressions, gestures, how he presents himself. If you like the person, then you investigate him further as a specialist. You study his education, personal therapy, supervision, reviews, what psychological communities he belongs to. And you can find out all this about the psychologist before your first meeting. At the first meeting between the client and the psychologist, all the intricacies of their further cooperation are discussed, verbally or in writing - an agreement on the provision of psychological services. Such intricacies as: - complete confidentiality (except if the psychologist addresses the supervisor for this therapy); - non-judgmental (the psychologist does not impose his point of view and views, and perceives the client as he is, without any evaluation); - responsibility (this is a two-way process, the psychologist is responsible for what happens during therapy with a client, and the client is responsible for his actions, the implementation (or non-compliance) of the psychologist’s recommendations. After all, the client is an adult. The psychologist cannot help every client and his responsibility is to understand and inform the client); - goal and methods of work (full information on what therapy will consist of, what techniques will be used, homework); - relationships and boundaries (all communication takes place during scheduled sessions, if there is an emergency, then a phone call), - duration and regularity of therapy (times are discussed therapy, depending on the client’s situation, and the frequency of meetings, usually once a week); - payment (can be upon consultation or payment for several consultations at once, an increase in payment is also stated in advance); - lateness and cancellation of consultations (discussion of lateness so that the client does not expect the session to be extended for the duration of the delay. Cancellation of the consultation at least 24 hours in advance); - location. The agreement will lay a good foundation for a trusting and responsible relationship between the psychologist and the client. And here your joint therapeutic process begins. Remember that a psychologist does not have magic pills and potions to help a client in one or two times, get ready to work, work on yourself. Enjoy the process of your changes and you will get results. And what it will be like depends largely on you. Your psychologist Lyko Yana
