More than one hundred and forty years ago, German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus conducted his research in the field of human memory. As a result of the experiments, a “forgetting curve” was obtained, which clearly demonstrates how information “evaporates” from the human brain. By the way, Ebbinghaus conducted experiments on himself - it was a very long and labor-intensive process. He memorized sequences of letters and then wrote them down at different intervals. It turned out that on the very first day he forgot 40% of the information, the next day - 20%, that is, in total more than half was lost. Then the rate of forgetting decreased, but after a week not a trace remained of this information. It is also worth making an important emphasis - Ebbinghaus did not repeat or memorize information, which he himself constantly said. It is no secret that the success of memorization lies in the comprehension of the information received - if you understand and comprehend what you need to learn, then it will be postponed in your memory for a very long time. Hermann Ebbinghaus was fascinated by the idea of how to remember information without participating in the thinking process (and this was in 1800!). His experiment was repeated more than a hundred years later, but the results were the same. Later, the experiment was conducted using memorization, however, this reduced the rate of forgetting by only 10-20%. Remember, “cramming” before exams - after successfully passing the test, students leave the office aka “tabula rasa”. The thing is that learned tickets do not enter long-term memory, so they quickly “evaporate” as unnecessary. How can you remember what you need for a long time? There are several techniques. Mnemonics help greatly due to the fact that a person builds associative series with the information he receives, thanks to this, new material is not layered on top, but is built into existing areas of knowledge. Repetition - works well when you need, for example, to learn new ones words in a foreign language. Especially when there is no time to build associations. Different sources have different intervals for repetition, but the essence is the same - first, new information is repeated often (for example, 15 minutes after memorization - why after an hour - after two, etc.), and then the interval is increased exponentially. You can set a reminder, and some apps for learning foreign languages already contain these alerts. Remove all unnecessary information from the information to be remembered. Read/listen and isolate only the facts - they should be remembered, and with additional text you can “decorate” these facts yourself. Periodically test yourself to make sure that you remember everything correctly. The brain generally loves all these recording and evaluating moments. Use special exercises to train your memory. There are even special games aimed at developing this area of the brain, which makes training interesting and exciting. A good memory is an important and irreplaceable tool in the life of every person, so it is always necessary to take care of it. Do you have a good memory? Are you doing her training?
