“The group became a turning point in my life.” “I have found my value and now I try to cultivate it and notice it in everything.” “A group is truly a small life.” These are the words of the participants in my next group, which ended last week. So what is the “magic” of the group format? - A group is a place where you can better understand yourself and others. Every person has a “blind spot”: an unconscious part of their personality that is visible only to others. Feedback helps. An example from practice: a woman who was surprised by the ignorance and (or) aggression of men, learned that she herself provokes such a reaction. - In a group, people really change. The zone of awareness expands, and participants gain new emotional experience. Then you can start ACTING DIFFERENTLY, not as usual. An example with the same woman. She began to address men not in an aggressive and devaluing manner, but as people with their own strengths and weaknesses, who can also be vulnerable. - The group is learning new communication techniques. In particular, “direct appeals” and “I-statements”. Participants learn to address people in such a way that THEY ARE LISTENED AND HEARD. The chances of meeting needs in a relationship (any) increase sharply. - In a group, people receive support. Thousands of years ago, expulsion from a tribe meant death for a person. Physical. Now you can survive alone, but WE NEED emotional, intellectual and physical CONTACTS. This way you don’t have to be left alone with your difficulties and experiences. This is especially true now. - The group gives stability. Due to the regularity of meetings and clear time frames, a feeling of consistency and predictability arises. Many people lack this in their lives. - In group therapy, the same problems can be solved as in individual therapy. Only here there is a better chance of sorting out communication problems, and one hour usually costs several times cheaper than an individual meeting with a psychologist. On March 13, my group in Minsk will begin. We meet every Monday from 18:45 to 21:45 on Bedy St., 45 (Minsk). The cost of one meeting is 70 BYR.
