From the author: The article was published on the website. You have probably seen many times how in American action films, police cars, driving into a dead end, dashingly make a U-turn at speed and drive in the opposite direction, without wasting time on braking, maneuvers (sometimes long) to turn and accelerate again? Such a 180-degree turn is called a “police turn,” and police officers are taught this in special courses. Such a turn is difficult to perform, and an untrained driver cannot make it without an experienced instructor. Drawing an analogy, I note that in real life, a person who finds himself in a dead end situation most often does not risk making such a “police turn” in his life, and remains stuck in a dead end, or slowly maneuvers, sluggishly trying to get rid of unpleasant moments: - goes to work, which he has long been tired of, and which he has outgrown in all respects, without even making an attempt to find a place according to his abilities and liking. He occasionally looks at vacancies, but does not go to interviews because he is not confident in himself as a specialist, and although his old place is not interesting, everything is familiar; he lives in a relationship in which there is no pleasure, no satisfaction, no passion, no warmth, but coldness, alienation and bitterness of disappointment, because greed overcomes - reluctance to share property, and the fear of being left alone, without finding anyone “suitable”; - a businessman can drag out a business that only brings losses, because I’m afraid to admit to myself that the project was a failure, because so much effort was invested in this matter, and other businessmen will laugh at the fact that I turned out to be a “weakling,” “bankrupt,” incompetent, not “on horseback.” And it cannot be said that a person is not trying to solve his problem, because there is activity going on, sometimes even vigorously. A careerist regularly looks through “Wanted” advertisements in newspapers, a woman runs to fortune-tellers and fortune tellers, trying to bring her husband back to the family, a businessman is exhausted in order to revive a dead project. But there is neither pleasure from the process, nor satisfaction from the achieved result, and now there is a loss of strength, loss of interest in life, complete disappointment in people and in oneself. It is at such moments that you need to go to psychologists, coaches, personal growth specialists, so that They finally helped you realize and accept 2 important things about you: 1. I have reached a dead end. 2. To get out of the deadlock, I must change something in my life. Sometimes, however, a “police turn” occurs spontaneously during psychological work. That is, a person comes with a request, we work with him to achieve his goal, and suddenly a “police turn” occurs, the goal changes to the opposite, and this opposite goal turns out to be true. I had two such clients. Both went through the “Divorce as a Springboard to Success” program. The first client, a woman about 30 years old, was working on a request that she wanted to divorce her husband. We clarified the reasons holding us back from this step and worked through the fears that prevented us from living alone. For three sessions we worked calmly, there were no special insights or breakthroughs, but the process of working through it slowly but surely moved forward. Before the scheduled fourth session, she called and, laughing joyfully, said that the problem of divorce had been solved for her, and not in the way we had planned. I was intrigued, what happened? And she told me that the other day she came home earlier than usual and caught her husband with his mistress. Having given them a thorough “dispersal”, even to the point of applying a broom to both of their bodies, instead of scolding, she suddenly heard a question from her husband: “Why were you silent before, why is all this unpleasant for you? You’ve become cold and indifferent lately, I decided that you stopped loving me, and with my mistress I tried to arouse a feeling of jealousy in you.” In general, it only took them one evening of frank, deep conversations to find out that there was still love on both sides. Of course, they both decided to give the family a chance to recover. She asked.
