Today on the topic of emotions, our guide will be the theory of Gestalt therapy. Gestalt therapy is a branch of psychotherapy that recognizes the integrity of human experience and calls for awareness and acceptance of one’s emotions. Emotions play an important role in our lives, they help us understand ourselves and our needs, as well as interact with the world around us. Understanding your emotions is the key to your true desires and needs. One of the main principles of Gestalt therapy is the concept of “here and now”. This means that it is important to pay attention to your emotions in the moment, without putting them off for later. Observing your emotions allows you to understand what exactly causes them and what actions you need to take to resolve them. Emotions in the present moment serve as a relevant compass in experiencing our personal (subjective) reality. In order to understand your emotions, it is important to learn to listen to your body. Emotions are read by us through physiological manifestations - rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms, trembling hands, blood rushing to the cheeks, etc. Pay attention to these signals and try to understand what they are telling you. In this understanding, the following questions can help us: “what is happening to me now”, “how is what is happening affecting me”, “how am I influencing what is happening”, “what else can these feelings of mine mean”? Another way to understand your emotions is to pay attention to your thoughts. Often we experience emotions in response to certain thoughts or beliefs. Try to analyze your thoughts at the time the emotion arises and understand what exactly caused it. Gestalt therapy also recognizes the importance of expressing emotions. Suppressed and unresolved emotions can lead to psychological problems and even physical illness. Therefore, it is important to learn to express your emotions, to be honest with yourself and other people. However, it is important to remember that not all emotions need to be fully expressed directly and at the same moment. It is important to learn to be aware of your emotions and express them in a constructive and safe way for others - this is called looking for a suitable form for your emotions and feelings. Some emotions cannot be expressed in a direct way and then sublimation comes to the rescue: for example, writing poetry, paintings and any other less obvious ways to express emotions in action. So, understanding your emotions is an important step towards self-knowledge and personal growth. Gestalt therapy offers tools and approaches that help develop this ability and find harmony with yourself and the world. So don't be afraid to explore your emotions, be open to them and be willing to accept them. These are all small steps towards your unique psychological well-being..
