An increasing number of people strive for self-knowledge and new knowledge about themselves and the world around them. This is why more and more people are turning to knowledge that has existed for many centuries, hoping for the wisdom of their ancestors. Meditations, mandalas, yoga - this is not a complete list of methods that both professionals and ordinary people now resort to. Psychologists are also increasingly using all this in their work. This article will also discuss mandala therapy, which has recently been widely used in practical psychology and art therapy. “What is mandala therapy?” There are quite a lot of answers to this question: “Art therapeutic technique”, “Diagnostic method”, “Jung’s method of analytical psychology”, “Meditative technique”, “Spiritual practice”, “Method of self-development”. In fact, it turns out that answering this question is not so simple, although there is a sufficient amount of material on this topic. But we'll try. And it’s worth starting with the fact that we will consider Mandala as a method of art therapy. The word “mandala” has ancient origins; it is translated from Sanskrit as “sacred circle”. Where the circle itself is a symbol that personifies the model of the universe, from small to great, from a schematic image of a human cell to a “map of space.” In many ancient cultures, especially in the East, in the culture of Hindus and Buddhists, the mandala is considered sacred, and its drawing is used for spiritual development and healing of the body. Initially, mandalas were painted with colored sand, which is still practiced by Tibetan Monks; today, mandalas are drawn, embroidered, embossed on fabric and leather, depicted in sand, made from stained glass, and in general almost all types of creativity are used! In psychology, a mandala is a symbolic image of the inner world, the safest for our perception. The circle creates a feeling of protected space, and this feeling contributes to greater disclosure at the moment of creativity, allowing the most important and deep things to appear. The mandala is depicted as a circle, with figures inscribed in it (squares, inner circles, flowers, etc.). Her drawing technique is based on the principle of the golden ratio, it is considered ideal and flawless. The peculiarity of the mandala therapy method is the combination of: art therapy, which allows you to relieve stress, feel the effect of self-expression and obtain resources for solving issues; analytical theory, which raises to the level of awareness that which manifests itself as spontaneous images, feelings and emotions of a dynamic approach in which the images and symbols of the drawing are transformed, expressed through body language, the verbal channel, the channel of relationships, bringing more awareness, freedom and lightness into everyday life. Why do Mandalas draw in psychology? A mandala created by human hands is unique and cannot be repeated. It is a product of creativity, not only of our hands and consciousness, but primarily of the unconscious, and is created at a certain time and in a certain place. This is why the mandala is like a mirror of our soul! Problems, joys, anxieties, the physical state of the body, resources and much more - all this is reflected in the mandala. In the process of drawing a mandala, we can harmonize it! After all, what surrounds us is just a reflection of what is inside, which means that by changing our internal state, we automatically change what surrounds us outside. And drawing in a circle itself is beautiful and puts a person into positive thoughts! Are there any contraindications for mandala therapy? NO! This is, first of all, a resource technique that helps to find hidden opportunities in a person to change what he doesn’t like in life or in himself. It quite gently and carefully immerses a person in the world of the unconscious, awakening the child in him, the ability to enjoy everything and play, opening up new facets!
