The conflict between desire and prohibition is an internal conflict. There is an internal conflict - there is an opportunity for development, there is no internal conflict - there is no development. But internal conflict is always dissatisfaction and suffering. At the same time, there is a chance that dissatisfaction will develop into action, development and change will occur. But I want to get rid of suffering, and not in a long and painful way (for example, psychotherapy), but in some simple and painless way. According to Jacques Lacan, for a neurotic, the way to get rid of the internal conflict leading to anxiety may be to get rid of desire - “castration”. But how to produce it? How to get rid of desire? How to stop wanting something and worrying about it. And this is where an antidepressant comes to the rescue. And now it seems that everything is not so bad at work, and in personal life everything is more or less, and the city suits you, and you can somehow not pay attention to your relatives. Everything seemed to be not so bad, it was possible to live. There was a desire - it tormented, made me suffer, worried. “Castration” occurred - there was no more suffering, and no more chances for development (changes). Let's say you want a new dress, but it's expensive, you can't afford it, you don't have enough money for it. You suffer, feel unsatisfied, unhappy. And this suffering may push you, for example, to look for another higher-paying job. Or the second option - you start taking an antidepressant, you want a dress, but not so much. It seems that the old one is normal, or you can find something cheaper. An antidepressant is always on the side of the Super-Ego, it makes the desire faded, unimportant, stupid, it becomes wrong, excessive, you can refuse it. And that’s all - the suffering is over, and so are the chances for development. I have deliberately described a simplified example of the development of events. We understand perfectly well that in life everything is somewhat more complicated, desires may not be clear, veiled, unconscious, and therapy is not limited to increasing the income of patients. PS It’s worth mentioning right away that in this article I present my personal view on the use of antidepressants and my attitude towards their prescription. I am not against antidepressants in principle; in the end, not everyone wants to be treated with psychotherapeutic methods, and then there is no other way out. In addition, sometimes, in case of a severe condition, it makes sense to use antidepressants simultaneously with psychotherapy, but as soon as the condition improves, you should immediately stop taking them. It should also be taken into account that some doctors qualified as psychotherapists and psychiatrists prefer to focus on treatment with antidepressants, directing patients to drug therapy. That is, they essentially provide psychiatric care, which, in my opinion, is strategically incorrect.
