A lot can be said about gaslighting, because... It has a lot of manifestations in a variety of types of relationships. But I will still focus on the relationship between a man and a woman. Since in my work I most often encounter requests that relate to the manifestation of gaslighting specifically in romantic relationships. And even outside of work, I see manifestations of this one of the types of psychological violence frighteningly often - in the relationships of acquaintances, girlfriends, friends, etc. In general, the problem is extremely pressing and relevant. There are several ways to resist gaslighting: Trust yourself and your feelings. Our emotions, among other things, are also needed to compensate for the lack or lack of information in the case of assessing any situation. So if your spouse or boyfriend's actions offend you, even if you can't immediately say why, that's a sign that something is wrong. Stand up for your opinion, your feelings and your point of view. Don’t be afraid to express out loud how you feel as a result of your partner’s abusive behavior, as well as the fact that you are uncomfortable with attempts to make you look crazy. If possible, involve outside observers. Ask your loved ones and friends whether you really have those oddities that your husband constantly tells you about. And don’t hesitate to contact a specialist if you doubt your own abilities or feel that you can’t cope alone. A competent psychologist or psychotherapist will always help you understand the current situation and sort everything out. The most curious thing is that the manipulator himself may sometimes not realize that he is using methods of psychological violence. Which, of course, does not justify him, because... It is unlikely that anyone will resort to gaslighting out of the goodness of their hearts. Therefore, feel free to fight back and do not justify it with the argument “well, he didn’t know.” Regardless of his awareness, you are not obliged to tolerate unworthy and boorish treatment of yourself.
