To help or not to help? Today I thought twice about this issue. The first time I wanted to help a woman with a stroller enter the entrance, as it turned out, she did not intend to enter, she simply hid from the rain. The second time, this topic came up in a conversation with a friend. I love helping people, but they don’t always ask me to do it. So, after all, how good is it to be a good Samaritan? As a specialist, I’m sure it’s not always good. There is a great risk of exhaustion. It is impossible to help everyone. In order not to become exhausted, it is important to understand your motives. Ask yourself the question: “Why do I want to help this particular person, what is this for me?” It’s good to help when asked - they will thank you and the balance will be restored. What if you didn’t ask? If you didn’t ask, and you made the decision to help the person on your own, don’t expect gratitude. This is your altruistic contribution to the well-being of humanity. In such cases, it is better to help out of a feeling of one’s own “excess”, i.e. when you have something to share free of charge and you don’t regret it (be it energy and time or money and valuables). If you have helped someone and feel exhausted, you may experience negative feelings towards the recipient of your help, even irritation and anger. The reasons can be very different: ♤they helped when you yourself needed help according to the principle “I do to others what I would like them to do to me”;♧you had to spend more resources than you initially expected;♤the hidden motive for your help was to rise above those around you , thanks to this help, become a necessary and important person; ♧ it turned out “not your way” (for example, they didn’t listen to your advice); To return to good health and mood, first, take care of yourself. If you need help, ask for it and be grateful. And, secondly, next time reconsider your position regarding the motives that push you to help others. Be attentive to yourself, remember, it is important to take care of yourself first..
