Here I want to share what I focus on now (at the time of writing this article) at the first meetings with clients and clients. Getting to know each other. I introduce myself as my name and what pronoun you can use to address me. He/him. I also suggest introducing yourself to your interlocutor. We choose how we feel more comfortable communicating in You or You. (Usually I suggest switching to You right away, but if a person finds it more convenient to use You, this right remains with the client). Sometimes I ask about age, field of activity and place of residence (if we work online). Next, I ask if there has been experience interacting with psychologists or other helping professionals. If you had an experience, what did you like about that experience, and what perhaps not so much? And what general wishes and preferences might you have for our therapeutic format of interaction? I also always offer my interlocutor the opportunity to ask me questions. What might you be interested in about me or about me? Or absolutely any other questions about consultations? If they are. Is there anything that might be important for me to know as a consultant before I start? Next I ask a general question. Why did you decide to apply? What do you want from our work and consultations? How does the person feel? There are rarely super ready-made templates here anymore. And absolutely every meeting is unique and unlike any other. Over the 5 years that I have been consulting, every meeting has been different. I also clarify what wishes you have regarding the duration and frequency of meetings? Some people choose 2-5 meetings, some 10, some immediately choose a course for half a year or a year. Twice a week, once a week, once every 2 weeks or once a month. Sometimes it is difficult to choose a clear period right away, so people choose a more free option and sign up as needed (work on request). As I wrote above, each meeting is individual, so it will not be possible to fit everything that may happen at the first meeting in one article, but I hope the post was useful and educational. ❓What else would be important for you to discuss at your first meeting with a psychologist? And what should we focus on to make the meetings useful, fruitful and enjoyable? I will be glad to discuss in the comments, Please write ✍🏻 Have a good start everyone and have a nice day πŸ™ŒπŸ»
