Psychologists' eyes widen. First of all, I advise you to decide on a psychologist or a psychotherapist, a specialist with a medical education; sometimes it makes sense to have both specialists at once, but this is a separate issue. As a rule, you should see a psychologist if: you have problems in relationships, raising children, you are experiencing stress for objective reasons, you have difficulty making choices, etc. and this does not lead to persistent somatic disorders, you are adapted to society, able to work, and do not suffer from severe addictions such as drugs. For the purposes of successful psychological counseling, correction, therapy, a psychologist must meet the following criteria: 1. To be a person with whom you feel comfortable communicating, you must be emotionally (psychologically) compatible. It is no secret that psychologists, most often, are people who themselves suffer (or have suffered in the past) from their own psychological problems, so it is important to find out whether the psychologist has his own unresolved problem specifically regarding your issue. Let’s say you come up with the problem of raising a teenage son, and the psychologist has a thoroughly unhealthy relationship with his own children of the same age, the conclusion is obvious. 2. The psychologist must be a certified specialist with a state diploma. There are a huge number of educational institutions that produce these specialists, usually universities. Please inquire before making an appointment. See if the diploma and the educational institution where it was issued inspires confidence in you. It’s good if the psychologist has additional specializations, additional training courses, etc. Check in advance whether the specialist has a specialization specifically in your problem, or whether he has practice on this topic. Ask for reviews of the specialist. The price should suit you. Very expensive is not necessarily much better; the cost can be determined by the specialist’s extensive experience, promotion and love of earning big money. We must admit that if you have money, then finding a specialist is easier and faster if you don’t have to tinker with it. 3. The plan and goals of consultation and therapy should be clear to you. In the process, from meeting to meeting you should feel better emotionally, and positive changes in real life should gradually increase if we are talking about long-term interaction. Good luck!
