Cognitive distortions, in simple words, are errors in our thinking, perception and processing of information that accompany us throughout our lives. There are an average of 15-20 such errors. Basically, they are all negatively colored and negatively affect our life, self-perception and world. Each such thinking error is a kind of psychological defense that allows us to reduce the intensity of what is happening, find someone to blame, or somehow devalue what is happening. But they have much more disadvantages, since they prevent us from seeing reality and perceiving circumstances and ourselves from different points of view, this prevents us from looking at what is happening as if from the outside and drawing conclusions regarding the whole picture, and not based on all the facts. Also, such thinking errors can make our life unbearable, because they are directed against ourselves, so it is important to find them in your way of thinking and gradually abandon them. Here are the main types of cognitive distortions: 1. Personalization.2. Black and white thinking.3. Filtration.4. Hasty conclusions.5. Overgeneralization.6. The effect should.7. Catastrophization.8. Negative filter.9. Emotional judgments.10. Accusations.12. Tunnel thinking.13. Thoughts about justice.14. Control.15. Mind reading.16. Exaggeration and understatement. Such thinking errors are not a psychological pathology, each of us has them, they are part of our thinking process and perception of the world, they prevent us from thinking logically and looking at many things objectively. Based on them, certain thoughts spin in our heads and they are the ones that already create our emotional background, most often negative. Essentially, this is an error in processing information, a mismatch between our thinking and objective reality.
