Envy is a complex and ambiguous concept, it can manifest itself differently in different situations and with different people, but in any case it is considered a socially unacceptable phenomenon. This is why people are ashamed of their envy and they try to hide it from others, which can lead to aggravation of the problem. In general, envy is a feeling of dissatisfaction with one’s life that arose against the background of one’s own dissatisfaction and the successes of other people. “Someone is happier than me at the moment!” - envy whispers to you and one becomes unbearably bitter from these feelings of one’s own unhappiness. How can you take responsibility for your happiness into your own hands and say goodbye to envy? How to cope with envy? It is important to understand that this task requires attention and specific actions, and each specific story will require an individual approach. However, there are some general guidelines that can help you deal with these difficult feelings. Identify and acknowledge your envy. This is the first and most important step. Don't be shy to admit to yourself that you are jealous of someone. Try to understand what exactly causes envy in you and what desires awaken under its influence. Recognize your achievements. Think about what successes you have already achieved in your life and what more you would like to achieve. It is possible that you are accustomed to devaluing your achievements and do not attach importance to what you already have. Dissatisfaction with one's life, lack of self-care, often immerses one in the illusion that the grass is greener next door. Recognize your achievements and thank yourself for them. This will give you strength to move on! Get to know yourself. It is important to know what exactly you want, what you like. In other words, when your tastes and preferences are formed, what is important to you and what you love, there will be much less envy in your life. After all, you know exactly what you want and the next step is to give it to yourself. Work with self-esteem. Increase your self-esteem and self-confidence; for this, both independent work with special psychological literature and individual or group work with a psychologist can help you. Work on your goals. If you feel jealous because other people have something you don't, try thinking about your goals and plans. Working towards your goals can help you focus on yourself and stop being jealous of others. When you are passionate about your life, you are no longer so interested in the concerns of other people. Avoid comparisons that are not in your favor. Often we feel envy precisely by comparing ourselves with other people to our disadvantage. Stephen Covey recommends adopting an "I'm ok" and "You're ok" attitude. It is important to remember that each person is unique and each has their own path. And your path largely depends on you. Maintain a positive and admiring attitude. To have significantly less envy in your life, you need to maintain an attitude of admiration for the successes of other people. Focus on what you have and what you strive for, let people who have already achieved what you still dream of inspire you! Don't look at them as bad people, celebrate their strengths that helped them achieve success. It can teach you to think in new ways and promote personal development. Connect with other people. Envy often arises because we feel lonely and unappreciated. Talking to other people can help you feel better and realize that you are not alone in your feelings. Try to communicate with people who respect, support and appreciate you. Contact a psychologist. If you experience severe envy and cannot cope with it on your own, seek help from a psychologist. A specialist will help you understand your feelings, discuss the problem and find an individual approach to solving it. It is important to understand that envy is a natural human feeling that does not need to be fought. Like any other feeling, there are certain needs behind it.!
