Skype interviews are just as real as face-to-face job interviews. There are few office specialists who have not undergone such interviews. Some people perceive this format of communication as easy and non-committal, but if you think that an important and responsible meeting awaits you, you should not neglect simple rules. Take care of your appearance, even if the interlocutor only sees your head. Dress carefully from head to toe (yes, from the waist down too!), and if possible, wear shoes instead of slippers. This will make you feel more focused. Try to ensure that your clothing matches the situation: if you are communicating with an employer while at home, wear regular, clean, ironed clothing (shirt, blouse, skirt or trousers, a simple dress). Do not overuse a strict office style - it will look ridiculous against the backdrop of your home interior. If you plan to conduct a communication session while away from home, then business clothes will be appropriate. In addition to clothing, hair and makeup should be neat. Organize a quiet place It is important that you are not distracted or disturbed during the interview. You need to choose a room with a door where strangers will not be able to enter while you are being interviewed. The room should be quiet and comfortable. The phone and other devices must be set to vibrate or turned off. Allow sufficient time for the interview - at least an hour. Create a background behind you. The potential employer needs to see you and what you are willing to show him. It’s good if it’s a living room or an office (in case you have one). In the background there may be a flat, clean wall, a closed wardrobe or a shelf with books, armchairs and a coffee table, or a window. You should not show a sleeping place, open closets with clothes, a safe, a dressing table - anything that allows the interlocutor to look deeper than necessary or that can make him embarrassed. In my opinion, you also shouldn’t conduct an interview in the kitchen. Check your equipment Make sure you have a strong Internet signal, a charged battery, or an outlet available. Set up audio and video. Make sure the camera is level with you or slightly above you (very few people look good with the camera looking down at them). Pay special attention to the light; there should be enough light to see you. The light, one way or another, should fall on your face. It could be normal daylight. To do this, simply position yourself in front of the window. If there is not enough daylight, connect additional lighting sources. This could be 1 or 2 lamps aimed at you, located on the sides of the camera through which the interlocutor sees you. The face will be well lit, and this is one of the necessary conditions for a successful video conference. Prepare “cheat sheets” You will need 3 documents: your resume, job description, your questions to the employer, so that during the meeting you do not frantically look for the required document in your folders, clicking the mouse and distracting yourself from your interlocutor , you need to print them out and put them next to you. This will make you feel more confident and not forget about important things. Yes, you also need a pen in case you want to write something down. In addition, if you are nervous or your throat gets dry during a long conversation, place a glass of water near you. It is better to avoid tea and coffee until the end of the meeting. I wish you a successful interview and a great job!
