From the author: What are the motives and reasons behind the hooligan behavior of schoolchildren In modern schools, the issue of discipline is quite acute. Pupils of different classes - primary, secondary, and even senior classes - violate school order. The scope of this can range from harmless conversations and passing notes in class to running around desks, disrupting lessons and other troubles. Young professionals who come to school find it difficult to find an approach to students and establish order in the classroom. They are forced to gain experience by trying different methods, looking for the most effective and efficient, but sometimes they spend a lot of effort and time maintaining discipline in the classroom to the detriment of the educational process. For me, as an educational psychologist, this topic is doubly relevant, since I often Concerned parents of teenagers who are disrupting school order come. How to reach such children? How to make a teenager hear an adult? And how to fit his behavior within the framework set by the educational institution? Fortunately, the wonderful book by S.V. Krivtsova came to my attention. “The Teacher and the Problems of Discipline,” which describes in detail the measures of pedagogical influence on students who violate the rules of behavior at school. My experience of communicating with young teachers has shown that it is difficult for almost everyone to maintain discipline, although the majority cope. Some let children tear paper, some move children, some seek an individual approach, and some find out the reasons for behavior, discuss and set sanctions. Before taking any measures, the teacher should find out the reasons for the students’ undesirable behavior. After all, behind any actions there is a certain motive. The American teacher and psychologist R. Dreikurs identified 4 motives for violation of discipline. These are: attracting attention; power; revenge; avoiding failure. Each of the motives has certain reasons and external manifestations. At the same time, schoolchildren are not always aware of their needs; they choose this or that behavior for certain reasons. Thus, attracting attention can be expressed in being late, talking in class, passing notes, etc. Often such children do not have enough attention from their parents, they do not know how to ask for attention and try to get at least some, even negative. The motive of power can manifest itself in outbursts of indignation, rudeness to the teacher, excuses for laziness, and forgetfulness. The desire for revenge (often subconscious) can be expressed in insults to classmates and teachers, acts of physical and psychological violence. Such children do not know how to constructively express their negative emotions (anger, resentment). The motive for avoiding failure is manifested in postponing the task “for later”; the student is guided by the message: “I will not be able to complete this task well (best of all), so there is no point in completing it ", i.e. It’s better to do nothing at all than to do it poorly. When faced with cases of violation of discipline, it is important for the teacher to be able to recognize the true motive of the child’s behavior, to determine what need of the student is behind this or that behavior. In accordance with this, you should choose the most effective way to stop unwanted behavior and develop a strategy to support the student, which will reduce the likelihood of repeating such actions in the future. Thus, with the motive of avoiding failure, you can use the method of tasks “from simple to complex” and celebrate the student’s achievements. With the motive of attracting attention, you can ignore the student, act unexpectedly (for example, turn off the light), or entrust the student with some important social task. With the motives of power and revenge - teach children to manage their emotions, establish strict sanctions and restrictions. Whatever the behavior of the student, by showing firmness and consistency, the teacher will be able to achieve success. By remembering that a particular behavior is one of a person's choices, we gain the power to influence students' decisions. We give them a chance to make behavioral choices.
