Adults are like children: what we keep and what we get rid of as we age. We all remember how, as children, we wanted to be like Jack Sparrow or another character from films or books. But as we grow up, the desire to imitate certain people in our lives still remains, although the way we do it may look slightly different. Although there are many differences between children and adults, there are also many similarities that can help us understand each other better and make our relationships more meaningful. What Adults and Children Have in CommonOne of the most obvious similarities between adults and children is their ability to learn new things. Both groups' brains are capable of forming new connections, learning new information, making decisions based on that information, and gaining knowledge from experience. It is this ability that allows us to develop the skills needed to survive in our environment. Another commonality between adults and children is their need for companionship. No matter how old we are, humans need social interaction with others to thrive emotionally and psychologically. That's why both adults and children benefit from having friends or family members with whom they can share experiences or simply talk about life's ups and downs. Finally, both adults and children experience emotions that need to be expressed in healthy ways so they don't lead us to negative behavior patterns such as aggression or depression. The ability to honestly express our emotions helps us develop self-awareness, which will allow us to better navigate difficult situations throughout life. Although adults and children have many similarities, what sets them apart is their level of maturity, which is manifested in different types of behavior, such as impulse control, risk assessment, or decision-making ability. As adults, we must learn to maintain a balance between protecting ourselves and at the same time exploring our environment without fear, as this will help us reach our potential better than if we are constantly held back by fear due to lack of experience in certain matters. On the other hand, it is important that when faced with difficult situations, we take into account past experiences so as not to repeat the same mistakes. In conclusion, although there may be many differences between adults and children, upon closer examination there are also many similarities. It is important for parents, especially parents, to remember these similarities in order to properly support their children at key developmental moments. Therefore, if you feel that you need help dealing with these issues, as an adult or as a parent, please contact me for psychological counseling.
