Often a child grows up with a burden that:▫blocks every ambition, makes it look ridiculous and paralyzes initiative;▫sets impossibly high expectations, puts a lot of pressure on and demands the ideal, the perfect;▫forces one to feel worthless; ▫starts a chain of thoughts “why should I start if I won’t be super successful anyway.” Why does this happen? Self-esteem is established in childhood. The child sees himself through the eyes of adults. The mother literally conveys to the child primary knowledge about herself: who I am, what fantasies my parent has, what I will become when I grow up, will I be happy, will I be a beautiful child. Example: In early childhood, adults make excessive demands, set expectations and tend to be disappointed in the child when he did not do the right thing or did not do what the parent wanted. The child also hears “the adult is always right and knows best.” The child tries, but he cannot do it “right”, “ideally”, meet expectations, and he is disappointed in himself. Often in childhood we heard a lot: “your hands grow from the wrong place”, “you can’t do anything on your own” and this leaves an imprint on the image of yourself in the future. In the future, an adult who often heard such messages in childhood: it will be intolerable to make mistakes, because they prove that the parent was right then, it will be difficult to start without the help of another and delegating responsibility to someone who can cope with this task better. Every time parental expectations and personal disappointments from childhood put pressure on us, it is important to monitor such moments and ask ourselves questions: ▪Are these my goals? Do I want this?▪Is my goal realistic?▪Can I move in steps instead of jumping? Can I allow myself to be imperfect? When a child is saturated with fantasies of being valued for who he is, accepted, loved and cared for regardless of circumstances - then the foundations of healthy self-esteem and self-confidence are laid.
