Sooner or later this will happen anyway: the information age will not bypass your child and he will have to become part of society one way or another. Modern society. In which the transmission and receipt of information mainly takes place on the Internet. It is impossible to protect a child from the Internet and computers, just as it was impossible to protect the urban population of the early 20th century from cars, steamships and airships. Therefore, we do not prohibit, but teach the rules. The tactic of prohibitions has long proven itself to be a failed tactic in interactions at any level. Let's list what is important to give our children, what skills will be useful for them and how to maintain the much-needed emotional contact between us and our children.1. We tell the child the rules of safe behavior online. We are talking about both children of primary school age and teenagers. Simple safety rules, in a language that children can understand; if there are examples, then even better. Do not share personal data and information regarding family members with strangers, block or engage in aggressive communication, do not participate in bullying other children, in cases of dubious situations, for example, a request from a stranger to send a personal photo, contact your parents. By talking about the rules, we clearly outline in the minds of children the boundaries that guarantee safety. There is another important point: in game mode you can simulate situations related to the rules and their violations; then these rules will become a visual aid for developing the child’s experience.2. Demonstration of useful and interesting Internet. This advice most likely will not suit those parents who prefer to spend most of their leisure time playing on the computer or aimlessly “swimming” on social networks. There are a ton of educational resources that present interesting material in a child-friendly format. There are many educational games that will help you learn to read, count or design. Time can be spent usefully on the Internet too. 3. Talk to your child as often as possible. This is important if he has the confidence that he can trust you and discuss his problems with you. And this feeling can only appear when the child sees that he is understood, accepted and loved. Agree on the rules for using the Internet - how much time it takes. This must be done as early as possible. For example, if up to the age of five a child surfed the Internet as much as he wanted, and then you sharply began to limit him in this, then, naturally, he will protest by demonstrating negativism and stubbornness.4. Offer other leisure activities that are not related to the Internet. Remember - addiction forms where there are no alternative sources of interesting pastime. Show that virtual reality is just a part of our lives, and not the other way around. Walks, joint outdoor and board games, cycling and skating, warm conversations over family dinner, etc. - all of these are integral and significant parts of your emotional closeness with your child.
