What results can I expect from therapy? This is the most important fear and the most important question of all clients: what are the results and will there be? An accountant, for example, sees his results in numbers, he has reports, tables, norms, a fitness trainer shows before/after measurements, and a psychologist? 🤷‍♀In the field of psychological counseling, the results cannot be “touched”, “weighed”, “calculated with an increasing balance”... You can only conduct testing and diagnostics, but in practice this is rarely used, only for drawing conclusions, because in order to get reliable data, the client needs to undergo many, many tests, the psychologist needs to process many, many tests, in general, it has not caught on in consulting practice. So what is the result and how to measure it? Firstly, the result in psychology can be felt by comparing your past experience with the present: before you fussed, twitched, but now there is calm, tranquility, a feeling of fullness and integrity! Secondly, notice in reflection: or rather, notice that you have begun to engage in self-reflection, explore your inner world, reactions, thoughts, feelings, and from these guidelines you build your behavior. Thirdly, track the quality of your relationships with others. Relationships, like any system, change due to changes in any element. And if something has changed in your system, it’s for a reason. For example, I used to say “no” and I was shamed for it, now I say it, but the response is understanding and agreement. Fourth, acquiring the skill of focusing on yourself and your needs: before, I didn’t even know that I wanted to be in silence for 15 minutes after work, and only then cook dinner and play with the children. Fifthly, the result can be expressed in unexpected “bonuses” in the form of increased earnings, losing extra pounds, making new acquaintances, etc. And sometimes it happens that in order to notice the result, you can ask yourself a completely different question: what did I stop doing? and other results that are not always familiar in formulation, available only to a specific client, corresponding to a specific request. Come get your results! Well, the question of how is the answer, all that remains is to answer the question of when! Here, too, everything is quite individual. And it depends on many factors: ▶If the client comes at the very beginning of his difficulty, then everything can be resolved very quickly, literally in 1.2 meetings. ▶how ready the client is for internal work: if he expects a magic pill from a psychologist so that he will do everything for him, then of course, the result will have to wait longer, I think you yourself understand everything. ▶what state the client is in: if we are now in a “low” state: apathy, severe depressive mood, despondency, and generally have not been in the resource for a very long time - this also delays getting results. ▶ Level of training of a psychologist: if you come to a person who has watched 3 videos on YouTube and already calls himself a “psychologist,” then what terms and results can we talk about? As you can see: the topic is quite broad and interesting. And the most important thing that I wanted to convey in this post is that results and timing are individual. Because we are all different and the situations/requests are, accordingly, also different❤was it interesting? Let me know in the comments or reposts ❤
