There are six main types of anxiety disorders: Generalized anxiety disorder, which is characterized by chronic, exaggerated worry and tension, even when there is little or no trigger. The person often feels like something bad is going to happen, but is unable to identify what the problem is. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): An anxiety disorder characterized by recurring unwanted (intrusive) thoughts and/or repetitive (obsessive) behavior. Panic disorder : An anxiety disorder characterized by sudden and repeated episodes of intense fear, accompanied by physical symptoms that may include chest pain, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness, or abdominal upset. For example, emotional manifestations of anxiety can easily cause problems at work or in relationships.
