Recently, the number of requests on the topic of combating procrastination has increased greatly - working from home is fraught with many temptations. How to overcome the craving for the sofa and refrigerator? Fighting with yourself is a rather pointless activity. A lot of energy is wasted, and the cart most often remains where it was. What to do? Learn to negotiate with yourself. Behind any action, no matter how meaningless it may seem, there is a significant value. Let’s imagine an abstract Masha. It is important for her to advance in her career, but instead of finishing her work, she once again goes to drink tea and cake. Because the whole situation makes her anxious. Fear prevents you from concentrating on work, but the cake calms you down. But in the end, most likely, the anxiety so carefully suppressed will be intensified not only by worries about overdue deadlines, but also by dissatisfaction with your appearance in the mirror. And there it is very easy to fall into self-flagellation. And start eating ourselves along with the cakes. When we realize what is important in what we do instead of what we supposedly should, we can create new strategies. Admit to ourselves that yes, it’s scary. Ask yourself what will really help you calm down. This could be a clear plan of action or a conversation with someone significant, or maybe an appeal to a psychologist. The main thing is to pay close attention to yourself. Separate the action from the value that stands behind it. I had a consultation with a client who often preferred doing routine business - computer game tasks of a high level of difficulty. Because they gave him a sense of self-worth, but routine work did not. He got out of the situation by delegating routine work in favor of higher-level tasks. And I stopped “eating” myself for meaningless pastime. Because I realized what the need was behind it. And the amount of procrastinated time decreased sharply. There is nothing meaningless in our desires. It makes no sense to just try to suppress them. How often do you procrastinate? What significant values are you closing in this way??
