Recently, one of my friends, walking through the park, joyfully exclaimed: “Shouldn’t you throw us a selfie stick!” After a friendly burst of laughter, a heated discussion arose about what the selfie hobby is, illness or simply following fashion. As a result of the analysis of materials on this topic and personal professional observations, this article appeared. There is a lot of information on the Internet that selfies have been equated to a mental disorder, the so-called obsessive-compulsive syndrome. Obsessive-compulsive syndrome is involuntary, constantly occurring thoughts or (and ) actions. They arise as a defensive reaction to some experiences that cannot be resolved by a person. In other words, in order not to think or remember about a traumatic situation, a person’s consciousness is filled with certain actions or thoughts. Anything can become an obsessive behavior: the habit of biting your nails, constantly washing your hands, masturbating, etc. It is possible that a selfie can become one of a person’s obsessive actions or desires. But this does not mean that all people who are addicted to it are sick. It all depends on the frequency of repetitions and the fullness of a person’s thoughts with this process. Therefore, further the phenomenon of selfies will be considered as a manifestation of a habit in a healthy person. A selfie helps you express your emotions and gain new ones. This includes capturing and posting situations online where a person shows different emotions. As a rule, this is driven by the desire to remember bright moments and share them with others. Typically, such people not only post “themselves,” but also like to look at photos of others in order to recharge their emotions and find new hobbies and entertainment in life. Through selfies, it is possible to broadcast one’s subpersonalities or alter egos to society. By posting different images of oneself, a person thereby says: I can be different, tender and reverent, aggressive and sexy, athletic and fit, a faithful wife, a caring mother, a skillful housewife, a cheerful friend. , a reckless beast or a glamorous diva. As a rule, this is done when in real life a person either has no one to express himself to (housewives, obedient, obedient children), or they cannot afford to show their inner world in all its glory (social status does not allow it). Presenting your ideal to the world image. It happens the other way around, when a person tries to hide his true emotional experiences, which he considers not entirely attractive and therefore creates an ideal look (from English: look - a specific fashionable image that is formed by precisely adjusted hairstyle, makeup, clothes, shoes and accessories) . All poses, surroundings and interior in such selfies are clearly verified. The photographs are taken in the same style and emphasize one particular image. It's not always something stylish and glamorous. It happens that a person intensively creates the image of a freak, hiding his vulnerable and sensual nature from everyone. Selfie as a desire for self-identification. Capturing yourself at different times in different situations in different moods: I’m still in bed in the morning, I’m on the way to work, I’m in the store, I’m on vacation, etc. Allows a person to look at himself from the outside, to identify the pros and cons of his appearance; often the evaluation criterion is likes and comments. We can say about such people that they are not confident in themselves, they cannot determine for themselves what I am and what I express from myself to the world. Often during a consultation with a psychologist, it is easier for such people to explain their perception of the situation or their internal state by showing a selfie, comments to them or SMS correspondence. Contrary to popular belief, it is narcissistic and self-centered people who commit self-arrows. I can say from my experience of working with several narcissists that for them, it is more acceptable for someone to take photographs, and selfies are beneath them. Selfie as a tool for self-development. Before and after photos, capturing your results of something and comparing them (with yourself) Thus, a selfie can.
