Since childhood, I loved reading books. I’ve read quite a few of them in my life. But I can still remember the plot, and most importantly, the range of feelings that this or that book evoked in me. Any book for me - this is an inexhaustible source of knowledge and discoveries! Discovering yourself and new worlds within yourself! Who am I? Where am I going? How do I live? How do I want to live? A good book can answer all these questions. The book is generally capable of answering any of your pressing questions, if you just allow it to do so. But the main value of the book, for me, as a psychologist, is that the book really helps to cope with stress. Checked! And not only on yourself. I recommend reading a good book to many of my clients as one of their stress relief methods. Moreover, I invite them to choose a book themselves. For example, you can go to a bookstore or library and trust your intuition. Choose a book to which your feet will lead you, to which your hands will reach, and which will most hook you with its title. Well, or just start reading your favorite book or the book that you have long dreamed of reading and have heard a lot about. In this sense, I am sure that we do not choose the book, but the book chooses us. And these choices cannot be random! The main thing is to trust your intuition! It’s no secret that in our modern world, with its frantic rhythms and instability of the global economy, getting rid of stress is the main concern of many people. A book that captivates you has the effect of disconnecting from reality, thanks to which it relieves stress much better and more effectively, than walking or listening to music. And if you find a secluded place with your favorite book, cover yourself with a blanket and treat yourself to delicious herbal tea, you will feel relief even faster. Neuropsychologist David Lewis explains the calming effect of reading by the fact that people dissolve in the imaginary world of the book and that in this way they escape from the worries and stresses of the everyday world. It is also worth noting that the richness and peculiar rhythm of a book text tend to calm the psyche and help the body fight stress. Today people are too busy and are finding time to read less and less. But in vain! Those who read books have a higher chance of building good relationships with others and making a brilliant career. People who read books are more stress-resistant, they look younger and live longer. * If you liked the article and found it useful, please click on “Say thanks”.
