Let's start with what anxiety is in general? Anxiety is a state of increased cortisol in a person's blood. Cortisol is a hormone whose main task is to make a person look for danger and be ready to react to this danger. That is, the task of cortisol is to help us survive. In some situations, the hormone really helps to concentrate and be alert. For example, if you are walking down a dark alley at night, cortisol will help you stay alert. Or if you are walking through the forest and heard a rustling sound, cortisol will force you to figure out what it was and how dangerous it is. In such or similar cases, anxiety will be a natural state that does not need to be dealt with. But in the life of a modern person, anxiety arises often, and sometimes it takes over a person and all his thoughts. Anything can cause anxiety - a flight on an airplane, a meeting with a client, the weather outside the window, the behavior of a husband, child, and so on. Anxiety can become intrusive and significantly reduce the quality of life. Why and why can a person begin to worry about everything in the world? For anxious people, anxiety is a way to feel control over events that do not depend on him. Anxious people feel that if they are worried about something, it is as if they have their finger on the pulse and thus can prevent danger. Although in fact, on the contrary, they deplete their resources and reduce their ability to cope with the situation. Because a person is worried, flying on an airplane will not become safe, the rain will not stop, the taxi will not arrive faster, and so on. But the very idea of ​​​​lack of control over situations that could potentially go wrong and cause trouble, causing even greater anxiety. And anxiety about events is essentially a way to cope with anxiety from the inability to control. But if we accept that we cannot control everything and abandon the ways of searching for such an opportunity and just relax, as they say, let go of the situation, then there is no need to worry about everything in a row, thinking of dangers at every corner.
