I really love this method, because it is easy to use and always “at hand”, since it does not require any special equipment except the hands of a psychologist. EMDR method – Desensitization and Reprocessing (of trauma) by Eye Movements, where “desensitization” is translated from Latin as “decreased sensitivity.” It allows the client to gradually reduce the significance of the traumatic event and form new, more effective behavioral strategies. The basis of the method is bilateral stimulation - alternating activation of the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which allows for desensitization (dissolution, reduction in brightness) of negative emotional memories and experiences. The method was discovered by Francis Shapiro , with his help she was cured of breast cancer in 1984. And already in 1994, Frances became a laureate of the American Psychological Association Award for outstanding achievements in psychology. EMDR works with traumas that: - just happened (with victims of disasters and natural disasters immediately immediately after a traumatic event), - occurred some time ago (in including - with PTSD) - traumas deeply hidden in the unconscious, which prevent you from living a full life. The DPTG method is effective when working with: - various phobias - depression - negative attitude towards oneself - self-doubt, shyness, dependence on other people's opinions - feelings of guilt and shame - manifestations of anger - increased anxiety - panic attacks - insomnia, nightmares - stress in everyday life, at work, in business - sexual disorders - with victims of violence (including sexual) - eating disorders (overeating, anorexia, bulimia) - with somatic manifestations - painful memories of the past EMDR is compatible with many types of psychotherapy, including: - existential - analytical - cognitive behavioral - gestalt therapy - psychoanalysis But can be used as an independent technique Due to its simplicity, effectiveness and wide possibilities in the use of EMDR recognized and recommended for use by the World Health Organization (WHO) A pleasant “bonus” when processing trauma using this technique can be: - increased physical activity - stabilization of the emotional state - increased creative activity (creative insights, inspiration) Sometimes there are situations when the EMDR method can be used independently, however, it should be remembered that only a specialist who has undergone training, mastered the intricacies and has practical experience in using the method can provide qualified and effective support.
