In the work of a psychologist, situations regularly arise when the client’s complaints are related specifically to issues of low self-esteem, self-criticism, and self-rejection. Perhaps, the topic of attitude towards oneself never loses relevance, so today I propose to consider one of the techniques that allows you to work with self-esteem - this is the “check- sheet of adequate self-esteem." Why is it needed? In order to form adequate self-esteem, you need to know what it consists of and compare it with your own attitude towards yourself. The main criterion for adequate self-esteem is realism + a friendly self-attitude. Check your self-esteem using the checklist: 1. A person with adequate self-esteem has a realistic level of aspirations (without inflated expectations or inflated levels of achievement).2. Able to accept his feelings as they are, listens to his state.3. Treats himself positively, does not engage in endless self-criticism. Accepts his weaknesses and learns to cope with them, recognizes his strengths and abilities. He does not downplay his merits and can calmly talk about them. Able to accept compliments addressed to him.4. Knows what he wants to get from life in the near future (it is important to split the life perspective into intermediate stages and set achievable goals). Shows initiative and perseverance on the path to the goal. You definitely need to praise yourself for all the intermediate stages of achieving results. It would be good to say it out loud and in front of a mirror (I know that this can be extremely difficult, many people cry at such moments).5. With adequate self-esteem, the opinion about oneself does not undergo significant changes depending on the opinions of others. It is good when the homeostasis of a positive attitude towards oneself is maintained.6. Treats his mistakes as experience, and not as a failure, for which he must certainly punish himself with a bad attitude.7. Recognizes his needs and the right to have these needs, while taking into account the needs of others.8. Able to support himself: provides himself with mental support, is determined to do well what is in his area of responsibility and control.9. Has healthy boundaries in communication: protects his emotional well-being, is able to say “no.”10. Takes care of your physical and emotional comfort and health.
