When a person looks back on the past, sometimes he has the feeling that he has lived until now in a fog. Mistakes that were once made, wrong decisions, and non-random accidents become obvious. In psychology, insight, sudden insight or awakening of consciousness is called insight into the inner self. What is insight? The term was first used by the German psychotherapist Wolfgang Keller in 1925. The English word insight, meaning a sudden guess or insight, was ideally suited to the definition of the syndrome. Insight is the highest point of understanding the experience gained, as a result of which a person receives a simple and logical solution to a problem. That is, all attempts to reach the goal, both successful and unsuccessful, are an integral part of the process. These actions seem meaningless, often inadequate and illogical, but their necessity and benefit are realized only at the moment of insight. Thus, insight can be presented in the form of a certain scheme: stage 1 - chaotic actions; stage 2 - pause; stage 3 - adequate, conscious, the right decision. The fourth stage can be called checking the obtained result in practice, taking into account the experience gained. In the field of psychology, insight presupposes a person’s understanding and awareness of motives, behavioral algorithms, and one’s internal reserves. He sees the unconscious that guided him in recent years, that guided, helped and saved him. In other words, insight makes it possible to understand why and why he committed certain actions. Types of insights in psychology. In psychology, two types of insight are distinguished: ▪︎ emotional - at the moment of such insight, one accepts one’s negative and positive sides, understanding emotions from the point of view logic. A person combines the intellect and the emotional sphere in order to deepen the connection with the unconscious; ▪︎ intellectual - a person consciously approaches the assessment of behavioral reactions, explains them from a logical standpoint. At the moment of insight, he knows how and can control his emotions, but does not consider them wrong, even if society does not accept them. Despite the promising definition, insight cannot be considered the end of work on oneself. There is no limit to perfection in human psychology. In reality, insight is a certain point, a turning point, when an understanding of the need for further actions or changes comes, taking into account the gained and conscious experience. So, a person understands and accepts himself, but sees that changes are inevitable, because this is the only way he can gain new experience and continue his development. Are there incentives for insights? Insight cannot be stimulated, but the following conditions are important for insight: the presence of certain experience, data , information - insight does not appear out of nowhere; for insight to manifest itself, a pause, distraction, a state of relaxation is necessary, when the consciousness briefly “forgets” about the goal; insight often comes at a moment when a person does not expect it at all, for example, in the process of routine work , household chores, practicing your favorite hobby. Insight in psychology is a one-step process, which, among other things, may never happen. A person can live for years without understanding his actions, reactions, emotions and decisions, and then get distracted, relax and in one second realize what it was for.
